A Day in Sadaoby

God Where are the bathrooms on this damn boat. Cassie thought angrily as she drifted down the hall. Towards the end of the hall she saw a large door. She carefully and quietly cracked it open, peeking in. 

Damn! she cursed silently, shutting the door as quick as possible. I must've forgotten this was the Dining Hall. During that brief moment she had seen Vastile and Crow eating their breakfast, along with some other crew members. Cassie sucked in a worried breath, realizing the blood on her hands had left a stain on the door where she'd opened it. She backed away slowly, turning around the corner.

Vastile sighed. He could only take what he could carry. he was afraid that the boat already there wouldn't work, for his weight and size. Definitely don't want to touch that water.

"Hmm... Well, I could at least find something there to take a sample of the water back. Acid like that is a useful tool... And weapon." Vastile mulled.

He lifted a single eyebrow as he heard the door open and close. Not really focusing on that at the moment.

"How large is the ship, we must take?"

Crows hand shot to her scythe as she turned her eyes on the door and slowly relaxed at seeing no one new enter the room. She turned back to Vastile and continued. "The Dead man Ferry can hold over a hundred men if and when needed. It is a thin two story tall river boat that travels the deadly River Styx ever 4 hours, it is the only safe way to my Village, Kosshi.."

Crow explained to her captain "How many people will we be taking...? So I know how much to pay.." She says sipping from her cup her other hand lazily resting on her scythe still.

"Oh finally!" Cassie exclaimed, pushing open a door. "And of course it's one that I passed earlier." she tsked herself, floating into the room. 

It was a rather large room, with a decently sized bath in the center. Lining the walls were sinks, and Cassie floated towards them. Turning on the tap, she rinsed her hands under the hot water. The blood was dried already, so she had to scrub them with soap. The water turned a liquid-y red, and her hands were clean again. 

Cassie glanced at the large bath, wondering what it was like. As a mermaid, she spent most of her time in the salt water, never actually having to take a bath. Curiously, she floated closer to it, dipping the bottom of her tail into the water. It was hot, but not boiling. She cautiously slipped into it, resting her head on the edge and closing her eyes. It's nice.... 

Unconsciously,  she began to sing softly. It was a song of the night, the moon against the sun. A quiet battle between night and day. It was a haunting song, known only by a few and written long ago. Cassie's soft velvet voice reached the hallways, seeming to come from nowhere, yet everywhere. If someone was to listen carefully, they would be able to hear her song from the deck of the ship, and nearly anywhere in between.

"I see... I think we'll bring a small amount. You, Cassie, Simon, and Me to begin with. I'll keep a device on hand to signal the need of more, they'll have to take that boat, too."

Vastile leaned back, a little more comfortable, now knowing he wouldn't sink a boat made for normal humans.

"One thing I've learned, is that taking too many people, is not always the best plan. I've lost some brave men and women..." Vastile sighed. "I'll bring Francis, as well... Man's good with food."

Vastile looked toward the door, hearing something. His large ears could hear someone singing, clearly. "Cassie..." Vastile paused. Someone who can sing like that can't be feeling the way Simon had said... Perhaps, he was mistaken. Vastile was however pleased to know that she sang. This crew was full of creative people, Vastile had made sure of it, and because of this, almost everyone had musical talent.

"Good..." Vastile stood up from the table. "Please inform Cassie of our mission. I'll be supplying you all with Nmumatic Pistols for this. If you want anything else, please tell me." Vastile tipped his hat to Crow and left the room, to find Simon and Francis.

Crow called after him "If you find Francis tell him I need those glass bottles!" She says before leaning back and sighing as she finished her food and then makes her way towards the sweet sound of singing. It reminded Crow of something long forgotten, someone singing to her.

But she couldn't remember the face or who it was no matter how hard she tried. Soon she found herself in one of the women bathrooms and smirks seeing Cassie in the bath, she the sneaks up of her and whispers softly in her ear. "Boo~"

Cassie jumped upon hearing Crow's voice in her ear, trying to prevent herself from attacking. 

"You scared me." she said flatly, turning to face Crow. She was in the middle of the bath now, and was happy to know it was rather deep, deep enough for her to swim with ease. She sunk down low in the water, barely keeping her head above the surface. 

"What's....up?" she asked, unsure of what to say.

Vastile found Francis in the kitchen and informed him of the upcoming mission and injured about Crow's bottles. He gestured to a box in the back, loaded with all sorts of bottles. "Have it placed in Crow's Quarters. Thank you, Francis."

Vastile found Simon on the main deck organizing the cleaning of the Track Harpoon. "Simon, a word"
Vastile explained the coming mission and explained what he needed from Simon. Simon said nothing, but nodded, and wrote down his orders in his notebook.

Vastile then made his way to his workshop, to begin to decide, create, or modify what he was taking.

Crow smirked a bit and sat on the side of the tub running her fingertips along the waters surface as she talked. "I am worried for my home and brother, so Vastile has agreed to take us there so I can make sure everything is okay and aside from Myself and our Captain we will be planing to take Simon,Francis...and you...if you'll come.."

She turned to look at her a serious look on her face. "You don't have to come if you don't wish too...but know that if you do I will forever be in your debt.." She says before making her way towards the door. "You have a few days to think about it.....By the way....nice pipes.." She says before leaving humming an old tune about delivering Sake.

Cassie wore a rather dazed expression, not sure what to think of the compliment.

"um..." she said quietly, though Crow was already out of the room. After a few moments of confused blinking, Cassie made her way back to the edge of the tub. 

What just happened? she asked herself, That didn't make much sense...she came and left so quickly.....


Shrugging off what she didn't get, the mermaid pulled herself out of the water. Sitting on the edge with her tail still in the water, she retrieved the bubbly coral from the floor and pushed the top. Once the bubble was made, she sat on it. Cassie kept her mouth firmly closed, not wanting anyone else to hear her sing. Singing was supposed to be something special to her and the ocean, not meant for anyone else's ears. 

I can't sing on this boat..... she thought to herself as she slowly drifted from the bath to her own room. 

Upon entering her room, she floated up to the desk. There was paper and pencil on it, and she began to write. 

Perhaps a floor of water? 
Some oceanic decorations would be nice....
a larger, softer bed?
Maybe some fish?
If there could be a painting of the suns rays as if they're being viewed from underwater...that'd be great.


she finished writing and pushed it to the edge of the desk to work on later. Now she fell gratefully onto her bed, laying back and staring up at the ceiling in wonder.

Vastile was sweating, he was working hard and very close to open flames.

He leaned back and looked at the thing he had finished, still dirty from it's creation. "Happy Birthday..."

Vastile picked it up and admired it's design. In his hand, a single long and unassuming rectangle of dirty brass and iron. He stood up and move to a more up part of his shop.

He held it out like a swords hilt, flicking his thumb and forefinger. A blade made of three segmented parts shot out and amazing speed, implanting it's tip into a barrel of sand, which bleed out slightly.

He pulled it out and swished it about, testing it's weight distribution and length, he was please. He flicked his finger and thumb again, causing the locks inside to open and allow the blade to drop back into it's hilt. He tested the springs again and again.

Vastile sat down pleased and wiped his forehead with a rag, which he then used to polish the metal. He spent another few hours polishing the blade to an extreme point.

Crow had been in her room for hours now, breaking the bottles studing the pieces of glass closely in her now bandage covered fingers. She had long ago finished the last of her sparkles charms, they hung from every hook and nail and covered her dresser and most of her bed casting the whole room in a rainbow-like glow. But now she was working at a more important task.

Slowly she worked her hands delicately handling the pieces of glass, using a small scalpel she slowly cut the glass sanded down the edges and cut a small symbol in the center that almost looked like a cats eye. Upon completion she held it up searching for any mistakes.

The now small smooth coin shape piece of glass was clear until light hit it. Then it shone with a rainbow of sparkles, Crow had some how put grounded up pieces of colored glass inside of the coin.

Nodding upon seeing that there was nothing wrong with it go to work on the next and the next. By the time she was done it was almost dinner time and her stomach had been telling her to eat for almost an hour now. Wiping the sweat from her brow she stood up and stretched. Her bones cracking from sitting to long.

After putting the coins into two small silk pouches she placed all but two of her charms into the creates, one of the more large ones she had made and one she had made with different blue glasses.

Picking them up after quickly warping them both in paper she exited her room and went over and knocked on Cassie's door carrying the two. The larger one having to be carried under one arm alone. "Cassie..." She says as she knocks softly.

Cassie sat up quickly, her finely tuned reflexes still forcing her to jump at every sound. It's just Crow. she told herself sternly as she sat up. Before speaking she calmed her heart rate. 

"Come in.." she said loudly, not wanting to get into the bubble again. 

What time is it? she wondered silently, wishing there was a clock in the room. There's something to add to the list


"...Can I...help you?" she asked, piecing the words together with some difficulty.

The blade lay on the table, finished. Vastile had begun to mend the bubble bike's remnants into shape and piecing them together into another form. Old designs and unfinished gadgets lay around him, waiting for a chance to be apart of the new gadget.

The Compression Tanks, the gadget used in Vastile's Boots, implanted onto the back of the new much larger seat, powering motion, allowing for great speeds, and cloud disguise.

Two Mnumatic Rifles, set on the front, fire using air from The Compression Tanks. They can be taken of and hooked up to a crew member's own Compression Tank.

The redesigned bike is much larger, large enough to be driven by Vastile, but designed for any to drive. It could sit 7 easily, Vastile counting as 2, on a large single seat, much like what could be found on a large herd animals back.

This is a recon design, built for travel distance and comfort. Vastile had already begun to design an Assault Model for Ship to Ship Combat and Escort, this would likely be built for speed and firepower. Vastile wouldn't take this beast out, unless attacked, provoked to act on the behalf of others, or in dire need to get somewhere... Fast.


Vastile stood and admired his new vehicle. The bubble was inside of a smart material, a canvas balloon, coated with fire resistant and strong materials. This should prevent rupture from gun fire and in the case of this, the bubble coral inside should activate and refill the bag.

He was pleased and enjoyed the way it looked. He felt powerful in it's seat, which was a bit strange for him. It looked like a large shallow motorcycle with no wheels, wide enough for 3 to sit side by side, with 2 up front.

He played with the boiler and engine. It hummed pleasantly. His new creation was alive. The Head light shown from the mouth of a metal dragon's skull, which he had affixed to the machine, purely for coolness factor.

After he put the dragon's skull on he had an idea. He searched through his old boxes and found one labeled dials. He removed two fire dials, not many left in the box. He placed them inside the skull and connected them to controls on the handlebars. The skull now shot fire from it's nostrils.

Vastile laughed after he tested it and set a chair on fire. He was almost giddy at his new invention. He continued to add decorative flair, copper scales on the side, a tail that curled around the funnel at the back, claws at the front and back. The bike had become a copper dragon, white canvas proofed balloon under, appearing to be it's belly, saddle on it's back. Vastile had made a dragon.

He laughed, danced, and sang as he worked. Unbelievably pleased with the ship's first true vehicle. It would have to live in his workshop, until he found some area in the storage deck for it and built a bay door for it.

He had finished his new favorite invention, The Copper Dragon.

Crow slowly entered the room handed over the warped gift to Cassie a light blush on her cheeks "Here...Its for you.."She say before turning and walking out the door almost tripping over a nearby chair on her way out the door clicking closed behind her.

The next stop on her list was Vastile's room. After an hour of random wondering and asking three different crew members she finally found it. So with her large gift tucked under one arm she raises her hand and softly knocked on the door before the thought of how late it was had popped in her head. "He might be asleep..?"

"Um thanks." Cassie took the package lightly in her hands, shock settling in on her face at Crow's hasty exit. She unwrapped the gift with careful hands, taking out the object and setting it on the bed. 

"It's beautiful." she said softly before remembering she was alone. She took the glass in her hands, tilting it so the light hit it at different angles. "Thanks." she said again. 

Wonder what that was about? she asked herself, remembering Crow's rosy blushing cheeks.

Vastile has covered in grease, sought, and a few small burns. He was in a blissfully jolly mood, that the crew tecognized,as his pleasure at a new invention. He sat on the deck of his ship legs crossed, smile on his face, and a large bottle of a special drink. He beamed and enjoyed the wind as the ship made her way above the clouds.

"I take it you've a new toy, eh?"

Simon appeared, likely dropping from the scaffolding above. He stood next to Vastile, both looking over the ship. "Aye... I believe it's a new favorite of mine. I've also made something for you, though I may make more."

"We are nearly to our destination. We've only got a day or so journey. Me and Francis are ready. I take it your new piece is getting it's first use, soon. Some of the crew are excited to see. Seeing that you're up here drinking your precious Whiskey."

Vastile nodded. "I'll bring it out and show it tomorrow. It's a beautiful thing, Simon... I think even you may be in a fit of shock." Vastile laughed, knowing Simon to rarely indulge in shows of emotion. Sometimes that could get a bit daunting, but it certainly was useful and did give him his charm.

They enjoyed the air and Vastile sipped at his bottle.

Crow had stood at the door tapping her foot for a few minutes longer before she decided to go look around a bit. After stopping in her room she grabs a few more of her gifts before making her way up to the main deck wondering where everyone was, but soon got her answer upon walking up on deck.

"There you are.." She says smiled a bit as she made her way over to the two her eyes twitching slightly at the sight of Vastile's burns. But she held her tongue for now as she held out her two gifts to the men. "Here....for you.."

Cassie held the glass up to eye level, studying it carefully. It's beautiful, but it could also be a weapon. If anything were to happen I could just break it into shards and use them. She felt a little bad for thinking about it that way, but she couldn't help it. Sure, it was a pretty decoration, but she had to think about how it could be useful in other ways. 

She wished she could reach up to the ceiling and hang it there, where she could see it always and the sun would hit it directly. But she had no way of putting it there, or getting it down for that matter. So she placed it delicately on her desk, pulling herself into the chair as well. With careful handwriting, she added clock to her list. 

Cassie looked it over, checking to make sure she had everything on the list. For now, it seemed pretty good. How did he say I could get it to him again? she wondered, glancing around the room.

Vastile and Simon glanced at each other, a bit surprised. "Well, thank you, dear." Vastile reached out and grabbed the cloth wrapped disk, Simon reached out and took his at the same time. The both, in perfect sync opened the wrappings.

As they did the light began to shine, reflecting the Moon and assorted lamps on the decks. Vastile's face gaped and became a smile, Simon's face was stone, but his eyes widened.

"Oh, now! What's this! It's beautiful! Kaleidoscope? Translucent-Transcendence Lens? Has it any odd properties? It's very interesting." Vastile revolved, rotated, sniffed, and tapped the lens, making mental notes, and thinking off possible uses.

This is what he always did with something new, tried to know everything he could about it.

Simon looked at his carefully and then to Crow, giving away one of the rarest treasures on the ship, and indeed the world. A Smile. "I've an idea, myself." Simon gingerly wrapped the lens in it's wrappings and tucked it into his tail, jumping to the scaffolding and to the foremost deck light, which fasted down and lighted the whole deck. Simon removed the capped-lens, replacing it with Crow's. The Deck now shown with a beautiful and shifting array of lights and shapes.

Vastile saw and laughed. "You've got Simon smiling and doing feeling romantic! You are an extraordinary individual!" Simon dropped and jumped the side of the ship returning minutes later with his case, which he opened, and retracted his Violin. He played under the shifting light.

The few crew on deck tapped their feet and the ones not working, began to clap and dance.

Vastile stood, "We've got a party started!? I haven't even been drinking... That much. Crow, I don't know what you've given us, but it sure is doing wonders!" Vastile pulled a lever on the Wheel's Console, sending gears and pistons a whirring. A panel in the Deck flung upright and revealed itself to have been the back of an organ, which Vastile sat at, and joined Simon's tune.

Crow blushes, she hadnt expected for them to like it this much but then smiled as suddenly a party had started. It seems her gift was working its magic. "Its just a simple Charm...For luck and things like that" She says rubbing the back of her head nervously. She was glad they accepted the gift as refusal would mean great dishonor to her. She then sits down by the door listening to the tune with tired eyes.

Cassie heard a soft tune floating down the halls, and glanced up wonderingly. What're they doing? Should I go and see? she thought to herself, biting the inside of her cheek nervously. Well I'll bet it's Vastile...I could probably get this list to him if I go. she said to herself decidedly as she picked up the bubbly coral. 

Slipping into the hall, she clutched the list in her hand and hovered down the halls, following the sound. More than once she hit a dead end and had to turn back. But at last she turned a corner and found the singing crew. She floated silently and unsure just around the corner, holding the paper in her hands.

Vastile played his organ in a Ragtime style. The Decks weren't very full, exempt for those on duty and a few who came for the songs, most of the crew remained at their work or in their bunks, listening to the music as it flitted throughout the ship.

Now, Simon on his Violin, Vastile on his Organ, another crew mate, who went by Big Zam on Guitar, and the Seagulls the flew all around the ship, made music together. Crow's charm glinting down onto the deck with radiant light.

"Crow, my dear, on this ship we value everything. We know that in all things there is something which makes it amazing, and your gifts to me and Simon are very amazing. Hell, it's given us an atmosphere! I hope you don't mind, but I do plan on learning all I can about it, so that I might find other uses for it."

Vastile saw Cassie enter the deck. He waved and called to her, "Ahoy!"

Crow simply nodded as she listened to the music before looking up to see who he was waving at. He cheeks grew hot in a faint blush seeing that it was Cassie before qiuckly looking forward once again but this time looking a bit stiff.

Cassie nervously floated back into view, clutching the paper in her hands. "Um....I forgot how to get this to you." she said to Vastile, holding out the list so the half-giant could take it. She cast a quick glance at Crow, giving her a half-hearted smile. 

"What's that tune?" she asked curiously, tilting her head to listen. She wanted to close her eyes to hear the song, but it went against all her instincts. But it had been so long since she had heard music made by instruments. It was beautiful. The last time she was surrounded my this kind of music, was when she was little, before her mother was taken. Cassie winced slightly at the memory, blinking away tears.
